Tell us about your teaching journey, how long after completing your training did you start to teach? How often do you teach and where?

I was very fortunate to be able to start teaching 1 month after I completed my training.

My first teaching opportunity was with a private client who came access my profile on Instagram. I was super excited when she contacted me and at this point it felt like fate as I had travelled for a few weeks after my training and she reached out 2 days before I was due to return home. I have continued with this client until the present day sharing her yoga journey also through her pregnancy which has been so amazing.

In terms of studios I initially got into 2 through being a substitute teacher covering peoples classes, which is always challenging when the students have certain expectations of the previous teacher. But I was so happy to be able to put what I had learnt into practice and be my authentic self with them.

I now have a nice balance of group classes and private clients which I love and I am so happy I have taken this path.

What are some key elements of WSY’s teacher training that you feel were most helpful in your journey to becoming a yoga teacher?

I found the practice teaching modules were the most valuable to me. We started these right from the first week, teaching small sections of a class which continued to grow in length throughout the training. This was such great preparation for the 90 minute final teaching exam. It was also so great that feedback was given directly after these sessions both from the teachers and fellow students to help us improve on our skills. This left me feeling prepared to go and teach.

How has life been for you since you completed the training? Has anything changed for you personally or otherwise?

I find I am so much more calm and aware of what is going on in my life now. The yoga philosophy really opened up my eyes and resonated with me on so many levels. The Yamas and Niyamas I often think about in my daily life and they influence my decisions, reactions and how I go about my daily living.
